What to see and visit in Taormina
Anybody who decides to spend their holidays in Sicily, absolutely couldn't not plan a stay in the splendid Taormina.
A hidden jewel in the province of Messina, it boasts little more than 11,000 inhabitants, and is situated approximately 200 meters above sea level. Its immensely valuable historical and cultural heritage places it amongst the most treasured tourist locations, both at a national and international level. From the point of view of its landscape, it appears to visitors as a huge panoramic terrace, offering its guests a most suggestive scenery.
Taormina's sea with its crystal clear waters of the Ionic Sea, together with its beaches, are amongst its most appreciated natural treasures. The varied selection of bathing beaches in the surrounds of Taormina are deserving of a visit, such as Capo S'Andrea, Isola Bella, Baia delle Sirene, Baia di Mazzarò and Letojanni, where the trademark lush vegetation of the mediterranean completes the stunning encapsulating scenery.
Even in the past, Taormina was a privileged destination for noteworthy figures of their time, including writers such as Brahms, Oscar Wilde, Goethe, William II of Germany, designers and numerous producers, all intrigued by the charm of this splendid location. In fact, its characteristic geographical landscapes have become a theatre for various cinematographic sets, as have its neighbouring townspeople.
The ancient theatre offers an enchanting view of Etna, the Naxos Gardens and the Calabri Mountains, the Odeon theatre with Roman origins, the Corvaja palace, and the Palace of Dukes. Amongst the most significant archaelogical findings, are the ruins of an ancient temple and an Antiquary, a small museum inside which some of the city's most precious historical treasures are kept.
